Prentis Hancock on SJA!

Nov. 1st, 2009 | 11:01 pm

(does a happy dance)
Does this mean that there's still a chance for Peter Miles to show up? Because it would be delicious if he returned as Tragan (from 'The Paradise of Death'). And, since it was an audio role and the character wore a mask, there's a perfectly valid reason why Miss Smith wouldn't realise who he is until he gets the ropes out, and starts talking in that wonderful Naglon voice...

The Latest Brouhaha

Sep. 1st, 2009 | 03:38 pm

So it seems that someone sold a book outline based on fanfic readers/writers tastefully titled "Netporn", and is only now getting around to gathering the data.

Needless to say, I project that this book will crash and burn, especially after the authors are taken to task for gathering data improperly.

But in the line of surveys, I ask:

What question(s) would you like to ask fandom as a whole*?

* using a mythical and magical method that probably beams the questions into people's heads and records their replies, or possibly owls. Something that would contact ALL fandom: net-based, zine-based, solitary consumer/creator, etc.

The Chapter 8 Conundrum Explained

Aug. 30th, 2009 | 01:37 am

One of my main frustrations with Doctor Who and the Dawn of the Daleks is how many people stopped reading after Chapter 8. I scoured the chapter again and again for some flaw, some typo, some mistake that would explain why so many stopped at that point.
Now as I see the same thing happening again as I repost the story on FanFiction.net, I think I see the weakness. A weakness in the eyes of my readers, actually. And not in me.
It is made abundantly clear in Chapter 8 that my OC female, Security Liaison, is in love with Commander Nyder, and it is also made clear that he is not interested in returning the emotion; in fact he will stand by and see her tortured with no empathy at all.

And that's the story-killer, I think. That I would write a story in which a character like Nyder would not be instantly redeemed by love.
